What are good ways to get rid of having bright red spots... or even ones that scab over?

Hi, Lois. There is no way to prevent some redness after the scab falls off. This is the normal color of the new skin that was just built. All you need to do is being patient, avoid sun exposure and moisturize the skin. The redness will fade in a couple of weeks by itself. 🙂
