Is proactiv+ effective? Should I use it for my Acne?

The "good" side of Proactiv is the fact it’s based on benzoyl peroxide – the single most active anti-acne topical medicine. Nevethless, there is one big downside to these products. All proactiv products are “one fits all” solutions, not customized to the user skin. Unfortunately, the Proactiv are beneficial to some people but irritating or ineffective for many others. The original Proactiv formula had an unpleasant sulphur smell that many users disliked. To decrease this unpleasant smell, the company removed the sulphur from Proactiv+. Trying to decrease the irritation of Proactiv, the company added to the formula sweet almond oil. It seems that this change his made Proactiv+ less efficient. This oil keeps the benzoyl peroxide on the surface of the skin, reducing the anti-acne efficacy of the product. Benzoyl peroxide that stays on the surface cannot unclog the pores and does not kill the acne bacteria. Another concern with Proactiv + is that its moisturizer (complexion perfecting hydrator) contains has ethylhexyl palmitate. This is palm derived oil, that is known as a comedogenic (pore clogging) ingredient. The proactiv+ exfoliator is also problematic. Most acne experts advise against harsh exfoliation in acne. Acne prone skin is sensitive and exfoliation damages the protective layer of the skin increasing the risk for acne breakouts. In conclusion, it seems that Proactiv+ is less effective than the original Proactiv formula, and includes some ingredients that may be comedogenic.
