There is conflicting evidence on the relation of smoking to acne. One Italian study found higher rates and higher severity of acne in smokers. The same results found in a study of 17,345 Chinese adolescents. A third study that followed 27,083 young men over 20 years found that smokers had actually lower rates of severe acne than nonsmokers. A fourth study, on 594 teenagers found a lower prevalence of acne in female’s smokers but not in boys that smoked.
Although the evidence for the relationship of acne and smoking is conflicting, it is absolutely clear that smoking is not good for our health and should be avoided.
