Does baking soda help with acne?

Baking soda is one the time-honoured home remedies for acne. It’s not as effective as the top medical grade anti-acne products (benzoyl peroxide) but has some benefits, especially on treating large single pimples.
Baking soda paste (sodium bicarbonate) dries the skin, excess oil and has mild anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. When mixed with water, baking soda forms a fine, gritty paste which helps to clean and exfoliate the skin, removing oil, dirt and dead skin cells.

How to use baking soda as spot treatment:

Cleanse and dry your face.

Mix two tablespoons of baking soda with two tablespoons of water to form a smooth paste. You can add one drop of lemon to the mix.
Apply the baking soda paste to some of the pimples, and leave it on the pimples for 15 minutes. Rinse off with tap water without rubbing the skin.
