Do I need to use a toner?

Toners are alcohol-based liquids that are used to remove makeup and clean the skin when water or soap are not available. Toners usually over-dry the skin and don't add to your anti-acne treatment. For best effect, stick to your MDacne routine as is.

Can toners and moisturizers be bad for acne prone combination skin in teens?

There is a big difference between toners and moisturizers. Alcohol-based toners remove the skin natural protective sebum layer. There are too drying for people with acne and may actually make acne worse. If you use the right cleanser, you don't really need to use toners. Moisturizers are the opposite. If the moisturizer, is light and oil-free, it will you with your acne treatment. The right moisturizer, help build and protect the natural skin barrier, preventing new breakouts. Keeping the humidity in the skin, it will reduce the dryness that is usually associated with anti-acne creams.
