Does benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid work better for clearing blackheads?

Both benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid are very effective treatments that help to clear and prevent blackheads. Both ingredients have a keratolytic effect, meaning they help to unclog pores. Having said that, benzoyl peroxide tends to be more effective than salicylic acid in the treatment of active red acne pimples due to its strong antibacterial effect. Therefore, if you struggle with both blackheads and active inflammatory pimples, benzoyl peroxide tends to be the better choice. Alternatively, if you have mainly blackheads and whiteheads, salicylic acid can do the job with less irritation.

Another gentle yet effective way to remove blackheads is with pore cleansing strips such as the MDacne blackheads removal strips. These can be used weekly to quickly unclog pores and work best when used in combination with a daily acne treatment that contains either benzoyl peroxide and/or salicylic acid, which help loosen debris to prepare for extraction and prevent new blackheads from forming.
